Solution dyed nylon carpet is a disaster. I was wandering along the beach recovering from ankle surgery when I came across a half buried pile. I got upset. I can’t stand solution dyed nylon carpet, and I don’t understand why people choose to live on top of it. It emits tiny microplastics which clog the vaccum cleaner, and which we breath in. It is toxic in a housefire. It is incapable of biodregading and will pollute planet earth for hundreds and hundreds of years to come. SDN carpet is synthetic man-made fibre, derived from petrochemicals. The production of nylon results in the release of nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas that has a significant contribution to global warming. And then there is the disposal, which in this case today was very very badly undertaken. The carpet will continue to emit hundreds of thousands of microplastics if left on the beach.
Solution Dyed Carpet left in our pecious environment, a major hazard for animals and ocean life.
Buried in the sand on one of our beautiful beaches, I could not shift it. Why had no-one picked it up? Why has no-one rung the council so they can come and remove it? I did ring the council. I tried to lift it but it was buried deep. I can’t stand that 1) people buy plastic carpet 2) that someone was careless and awful enough to not dispose of it properly 3) that noone else has dealt it with it. People were just walking on by…. What’s wrong with us? If you see rubbish and it’s small enough to collect and dispose, do it!. And if you see a major environmental hazard such as this, ring your local council, they will come and clean it up. Councils are available 24/7 for reports such as this – try your local district council and your regional council – all it takes is a quick google of their number. For around these parts, just call 067596060. Together we can make a difference.
Next time you need to purchase carpet – walk past solution dyed nylon. We have so many sheep farmers that will thank you for investing in wool carpet, as will your health and the planet. Bremworth Carpets only make wool carpet, here in New Zealand.
